Aalto Vase
Alvar Aalto’s iconic masterpiece has been a staple of modern Scandinavian design since its launch in 1937 at the Paris World's Fair. The free-form, undulating outline of the vase is based on a series of crayon sketches by Aalto, entitled “The Eskimo Woman’s Leather Breech”; a symbolic expression of the Finnish identity and culture.
80 years after its conception, the Aalto Vase is still mouth-blown from crystal by artisans at the Iittala glass factory, in accordance with its creator’s vision.
